The elements I enjoy dealing with in my work are a combination of aestheticism, nature, use of color and material, as well as abstraction and ambiguity. Although landscapes fascinate me, I choose to employ singular elements of this genre in my work, as opposed to creating landscapes in their more traditional format.
Trees in particular, have always been of great interest to me. Especially in the Fall, when the leaves change color, do they strike me as intriguing. The gradual transition from green to yellow, and eventually brown fascinates me, as well as the harmonious change from thriving greenery to death and decay. My work examines nature as a metaphor for feelings and experiences, and attempts to capture a physical representation of this time, as well as the emotion this passage tends to evoke.
My work focuses on a small, intricate part of nature as opposed to a generalized whole. I believe that oversimplification cannot do justice to something so carefully articulated. By exploring this type of subject matter, I hope to create a visual description, evoking a sense of curiosity and reflection.
